History
With over 50 uninterrupted years of history in wollastonite,
NYCO's corporate history dates back to the commercialization
of this unique mineral.
The New York deposit in the Adirondack Mountains was
discovered in 1810 and initially mined for garnet.
In 1936, the New York deposit was rediscovered as a
source of wollastonite. Koert Burnham, son of a garnet
miner, pioneered the processing and uses of this mineral.
Since 1953, NYCO has been the leading and original
producer of wollastonite. Capitalizing on its mining,
processing and marketing expertise, NYCO launched its
second operation in Sonara, Mexico in 1997 which remains
the world's largest wollastonite mine and processing
facility.
Today, NYCO continues to lead the wollastonite industry
with its state-of-the-art processing, outstanding technical
support and customer service as well as a knowledgeable
worldwide distribution network. |
